AI interface
Open sourceAnythingLLM for businesses
AnythingLLM is an open-source AI application under the MIT license that combines chat with its own documents, AI agents, and a built-in vector database in one package. We use AnythingLLM when a team wants to ask questions of their own documents quickly and with little infrastructure – as a desktop app or on a server.

What we use AnythingLLM for
Questions for your own documents
Documents are loaded into workspaces; the AI responds based on them.
Single-user solution
The desktop app runs on a computer, ideal for individual professionals with sensitive documents.
Team Server
The Docker version offers multiple users with permissions and an embeddable chat widget.
Agents
With a no-code construction kit, agents can be created who use tools and plan tasks.
Why AnythingLLM?
MIT License
Very permissive open source license, with no cost per user.
All in one
Document processing, vector database (LanceDB by default) and chat are built-in.
Free choice of model
Local models via Ollama or OpenAI-compatible providers such as the IONOS AI Model Hub.
Scalable
If required, an external vector database such as Qdrant or pgvector can be connected.
What we take care of with AnythingLLM
- Choice: AnythingLLM, Open WebUI or your own document search
- Set up as a desktop app or team server
- Connection of models from Germany and deactivation of telemetry
- Areas of work, rights and training
Implementation and consulting can often be subsidised through German BAFA or INQA funding.
What it is not meant for
Multiple users with rights are only available in the Docker version, not in the desktop app. For large, automatically updated document stocks with rights from the source system, a separate document search is more robust. AnythingLLM sends anonymous usage data by default; this can be turned off, and we do this with every setup.
