Buy 1 more: Why we collect for the food bank in Schwerin every year
Buy 1 more is a donation campaign by Rotaract Schwerin and the Wirtschaftsjunioren Schwerin, with bettersorted helping out: customers at a supermarket buy one additional item and donate it; everything is delivered to the food bank that same evening. Buy 1 more is a donation campaign that Rotaract Schwerin and the Wirtschaftsjunioren Schwerin have been running for several years — and we at bettersorted help out with it. The idea is simple: when shopping at the supermarket, you put one extra item in your cart and donate it. That same evening, we take all donations to the food bank. Last year, this resulted in seven large shopping carts in total. The next campaign will take place on 5 December 2026 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at EDEKA in Schlosspark-Center Schwerin.
Why we are taking part
bettersorted is a company from Schwerin. We work every day with businesses from the region and also want to give something back where it is not about technology. Kauf 1 mehr shows every year how much can be achieved when many people give a little: a packet of pasta here, a jar of baby food there – by the end of the day, it adds up to full shopping carts.
How the campaign works
- We stand with our display stands in the supermarket entrance area.
- Customers buy one or more additional products.
- After checkout, they place their donation in our donation carts.
- In the evening, we bring everything to the food bank, which passes the donations on to people who need them.
What is needed
- Staple foods such as pasta, rice, coffee, and canned goods
- Baby food and diapers
- Hygiene products
- Pet food, for example cat food
- Christmas sweets for the children
Chilled items, alcohol and tobacco products cannot be accepted.
Together with Rotaract and the Wirtschaftsjunioren
Rotaract Schwerin and the Wirtschaftsjunioren Schwerin are organizing the campaign together. Both organizations bring together young people and entrepreneurs from the region who are involved on a voluntary basis. Last year, we stood at the booth for a whole day, approached people, filled carts, and in the evening brought everything to the food bank.
