De minimis aid
De minimis aid is state support that is so small that, under EU law, it may be granted without a separate approval procedure — subject to a cap on the total amount a company may receive over several years.

What exactly does De minimis aid mean?
This becomes practically relevant when several programs are to be combined: all de minimis aid is counted against the same limit. Anyone who has already used up the cap will no longer receive the next grant.
That is why funding applications regularly ask about de minimis aid already received. The applicable cap and reference period are set out in the current EU regulation and should be checked before submitting an application.
