Interface (API)
An interface, or API for short, is a defined way for two programs to exchange data — without a person transferring it from one system to another.

What exactly does Interface (API) mean?
In practice, whether two systems can be connected determines whether a process can be automated. That is why it is worth asking about available interfaces before software is purchased — not after.
If an interface is missing, there are workarounds via export files or automation tools. However, these are more costly to maintain than a clean connection.
