Large Language Model (LLM)

A large language model is an AI model trained to predict the next word, and can therefore understand and formulate text. It is the technology behind applications such as ChatGPT.

Also known as: Großes Sprachmodell · Sprachmodell · LLM

What exactly does Large Language Model (LLM) mean?

An LLM does not have knowledge in the sense of a database, but rather a statistical sense of which wording is a plausible continuation of an input. This gives rise to both properties that matter in practice: language capability and the tendency to fill gaps in a plausible-sounding way. For business applications, an LLM is therefore almost always combined with a company’s own data instead of relying on its training knowledge.
