DRK Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Starting point

The German Red Cross (DRK) in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania faced the strategic challenge of harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence for its own organisation, in order to streamline administrative processes and address the shortage of skilled staff and volunteers. However, there was a lack of a unified strategy, the necessary expertise at management level and specific use cases — particularly for the modern recruitment of volunteers.

Approach & solution

As an AI consultant and certified AI manager, I supported the DRK M-V throughout the entire strategic planning and awareness-raising process: jointly drawing up a comprehensive master plan for the phased, secure and GDPR-compliant introduction of AI technologies across the various associations, designing and delivering practical AI workshops for the managing directors of the district associations to allay reservations, build management expertise and clarify AI compliance; and analysing specific AI use cases for the AI-supported recruitment and engagement of volunteers.

Outcome

The DRK M-V now has a clear, future-proof and actionable AI strategy. The management teams of the regional associations have been equipped to competently assess and manage AI projects within their respective areas. The concepts developed for recruiting volunteers provide the German Red Cross with modern tools to position itself as an innovative organisation and actively tackle staff shortages through digital solutions.

Here at the German Red Cross in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, we really enjoy working with Muhamed. We’ve already carried out several projects together – and it just clicks: he’s reliable, clear and to the point. Muhamed thinks things through, breaks down even complex topics clearly and makes them easy to understand. He works quickly, whilst remaining organised, and never loses sight of quality. For us, he’s a partner we can rely on at all times."
